If you are pregnant, you are probably getting advice from every corner. Hopefully you are getting good advice from your doctor and nurses. And then from your mother, sisters and friends to the person you just met at the checkout line at the grocery store will want to shock you too. And don't do it during pregnancy. Perhaps some of this advice contradicts what others say.

Eat Folic Acid Tablets

Also called vitamin B9, take these pills in the first two months of pregnancy - it's best if you start taking the 0.4 or 0.5mg tablet daily before you get pregnant. But if you find out that you are pregnant, start eating them as soon as possible.

Folic acid is essential for cells to grow. Scientists have proven that taking extra folic acid can help prevent serious birth defects, such as spina bifida, in which a baby's spinal cord doesn't close properly. You can buy these pills from any drugstore or chemist.

Of course, you can get folic acid naturally from diet too. If you can't find folic acid tablets, make sure you eat plenty of green leafy vegetables (don't overcook them or the folic acid can be destroyed), beans, pulses and grains. But pills are the best option, as they contain high amounts of the vitamin - it's really hard to get enough from your diet.

Stop Smoking

You have been told about this before!  Cigarette smoke contains toxic chemicals and they can easily reach the fetus. So if you smoke, the fetus also smokes. This stops its proper development. Children of mothers who smoke are born comparatively smaller. Even more so, some research has shown that they are more likely to have clubfoot. Later during childhood, their lungs do not function properly. And there is also the possibility of their death at the time of birth.

Inhaling the fumes of someone else's smoke (passive smoking)- This suggestion applies to your partner when you are pregnant. When there is smoking around you inhale the smoke along with your breath, and your fetus also smokes.

Children who live in a smoky environment are more likely to die without reason while sleeping - this is called cot death. That's why it's important not to smoke after the baby is born—or at least not in the room the baby is in.

And in fact when you stop smoking it is good for your health too!  You know it's bad for you, and now, when you're pregnant, you have an even bigger reason to break the habit.

Help to Quit Smoking

Depending on your circumstance, the initial days of pregnancy can be quite stressful.  In such a situation it becomes even more difficult to quit smoking.  But there are many places from where you can get tips and help regarding this.

Don't Drink Alcohol

Like the toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke, alcohol easily reaches the fetus. So if you drink alcohol, the fetus also drinks alcohol.  Alcohol inhibits the proper development of the baby's brain – and drinking heavily can also lead to congenital defects in the baby.

Can even just one drink do harm?  Researchers have not been able to make any accurate predictions about whether alcohol, even in small amounts, can harm the fetus. But as soon as a woman drinks a little more alcohol—two pegs, for example—then their babies are born smaller than normal. So even just one drink would certainly not be of any benefit to the foetus. So the safest advice is not to drink alcohol during pregnancy.

Do Not Use Drugs

Cocaine in particular is deadly – ​​it blocks blood flow to the fetus and can actually do a lot of damage. Hashish or Marijuana have a somewhat less dramatic effect.  But like smoking tobacco, babies of those who smoke hemp during pregnancy are born smaller than normal.

Similar is the effect of amphetamines or speed or crystal meth and women who are addicted to heroin can give birth to children addicted to drugs. They are small, cry a lot, and tremble while lying on their bed. In short, they all have the same effect as smoking and drinking. If you use drugs, so does your child. And it always has a bad Effect of Drugs.

Be Careful While Taking Medicines

Especially during the first three months. Some medicines can cause serious harm to your fetus. If you can buy a medicine from any drug store or chemist without a prescription, it does not mean that it is safe for you during pregnancy.

To make sure they are right for you, read the directions provided with the medicine carefully. You can also ask the staff of the drugstore or pharmacist to explain this to you.

If you regularly take medicine for any disease, it is better to go to your doctor and discuss it before getting pregnant. If you suddenly become pregnant, see your doctor as soon as possible. There's no harm in taking paracetamol (or acetaminophen) - although it's best if you take it on the advice of your doctor, possibly to bring down a fever.  Normal doses of aspirin or ibuprofen may increase the risk of miscarriage in the first three months of pregnancy. It is best to stop taking medicines during pregnancy - only if your doctor says it is really necessary.

Wash Vegetables and Use

And make sure the meat is cooked properly. Some types of food poisoning can infect the fetus.

Toxoplasmosis is caused by a type of parasite. It can reach you with raw meat or unwashed vegetables; and it is said to be in cat feces!  Although it doesn't make you very sick, it can harm your fetus's brain or eyes.
